Checklists in Emergency Medicine

Here's a link to an article on checklists in emergency medicine I was asked to write for this month's Emergency Medicine Journal :

This article is linked to an excellent research publication in the EMJ by colleagues at London's Air Ambulance. The study examined the use and design of checklists for emergency anaesthesia in the UK pre-hospital services. They found considerable variation in the style, length and content of checklists used by these teams.

In the commentary article there's discussion about  the various uses of checklists in the emergency department. It contains a few tips for designing checklists for use by healthcare professionals. There's also mention of how checklists can improve team performance by controlling pressure and helping to create flat hierarchies.
